How to choose a journal prompt that fits today

Start with what you want to explore. Gratitude can point you toward a specific kindness; morning prompts help you choose an intention; relationships make room for a conversation you have been putting off. Leave all categories selected when you would rather be surprised.

Next, choose a mood and a depth. A simple prompt might focus on one detail you noticed. A deeper one might explore an expectation you carry. These labels help you browse; they do not assess your feelings. If a combination has no matches, remove one filter.

Choose one prompt when you want to start writing now, or generate a small batch and save a question for later. If choosing filters feels like another task, return to the main tool and draw a prompt straight away.

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING

A few good questions.

Simple from the very first click.

Is this journal prompt generator really free?

Yes. Generate, shuffle, copy, and save prompts for free. There is no signup, account requirement, or usage limit.

How do I use a random journal prompt?

Press Generate and write a sentence in response to the prompt. Continue for as long as you like. The three follow-up questions offer optional ways to explore the same idea.

Where are my favorite prompts saved?

Only in localStorage in this browser. Favorites survive a refresh but do not sync to other devices. Clearing site data removes them. There is no account or server-side favorites database.

Can I generate more than one prompt?

Yes. Choose 1, 3, 5, or 10. If your filters match fewer prompts, you will see the available number without duplicates. Broaden the filters to see more.

Can I share a specific prompt?

Yes. Each card has a Share button that copies a direct link. The link includes the prompt ID so someone else can open the same prompt.

Your next page doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
